Mark Hunter, Head Facilitator and Co-Founder
“My own life’s journey has taken me from being a professional drummer to the world of corporate team building and personal development. I have made it my life’s work to bring drumming to every audience possible and to share the joy of our brand of unique music making.”
Mark is the unmistakable face of DrumPulse, so facilitating our events continues to be his main responsibility. He brings a wealth of experience, having personally facilitated thousands of events across the world.
Born in Perth, Scotland, Mark started his career as a successful professional session drumming musician for over 20 years. 20 years ago, he saw the huge potential in the use of drumming for corporate team building and entertainment. He co-founded DrumPulse, which has become one of the leading drumming event companies in the world.
Mark’s key strengths (apart from making everyone laugh with a comedy fall or two) are his top-class facilitation skills and keeping every event fresh and innovative using his Scottish charm. Mark is able to put any group at ease, bringing whirlwind energy and a great sense of humour.
Three things that you may not know about Mark are that he is famous for losing keys, clothes and facilitators’ expense receipts, that he will never eat a potato croquette and that he always drives back from events wearing fresh socks, which he terms “driving socks”.
Lisa Hayes, Co-Founder and Managing Director
“15 years ago we started DrumPulse with a £6 blue phone from Argos, a notepad and a vision! Things have grown at an exciting level since then, and we have remained positive through two recessions. I love being part of a business that is built around creativity and achieving personal potential.”
As Managing Director, Lisa enjoys speaking to clients on a daily basis and dealing with any, and every, kind of challenge! She has a great ability to visualise events and bring them to life, and brings the spark of creativity to DrumPulse.
In the first part of her career, Lisa spent ten years working as a professional TV and theatre actress in many different roles. Applying her unique creativity to corporate events, she then worked for some of the UK’s busiest event companies. As Co-Founder of DrumPulse, she has forged the creative spirit and dramatic formats that have become the hallmarks of DrumPulse events, and she continues to be at the forefront of designing and developing new event ideas and formats.
Lisa’s motto is ‘Anything is possible’ and she thrives on challenges. She has a secret yearning to speak five different languages and would like to invent fat-free dark chocolate! Two things that you may not know about Lisa are that her desk is always in chaos (in sharp contrast with Vicky’s) and that she can play the theme from Dallas on the recorder.
Owen Roberts, Head Facilitator
“I believe passionately in the potential of DrumPulse to provide real insights and messages to team situations. Playing music as part of a team is an exhilarating experience for the team and myself. I love having the opportunity to facilitate this all over the world.”
As a Head Facilitator, Owen has responsibility for the pace, content and overall delivery of DrumPulse events. Owen has developed a reputation for being wonderfully reliable, professional and a great pillar of fairness.
Hailing from the beautiful countryside of South Wales, Owen is a professional musician. Spending most summer months touring all over Europe, he brings a wealth of knowledge to every event with anecdotes and analogies from the music business. He has fantastic hair also!
Diverse interests include reading philosophy, particle physics and building V8 race engines and, since having climbed Mount Everest in 2000, he always tries to raise every DrumPulse event to a higher level.
Three things that you may not know about Owen are that he wears ‘sissy’ gloves when packing the van, that he once spoke to Michael Jackson on the phone and that the last time he played golf he beat Trevor!
Joe Redstone, Head Facilitator
“I played my first ‘gig’ at the age of 12, just two weeks after my first drum lesson! With DrumPulse I get to relive that experience as people get to perform for the first time ever in their lives, sometimes after only an hour.”
Joe is now one of our most experienced Head Facilitators and delivers our events here in the UK and Europe. Head facilitators like Joe have to manage clients, the venue and their own Support Facilitators and Joe does this with ease and assures a perfect flow to your day. With Joe, it’s like having your own personal event manager there, and he brings a warmness that people really respond to.
Since 12, Joe has gone on to play drums, percussion and keyboard [not often at the same time, thankfully!] in over 100 different theatrical productions. In 2004, he broke the Guinness Drum Marathon World Record, playing drums continuously for 51 hours and 4 minutes . You didn’t want to be living next door that weekend! Joe, with his own company – Fake Tan Promotions – worked on the revitalised Isle of Wight Festival in 2004 and 2005. After spending time living in Sri Lanka, Thailand and Spain, Joe returned to the UK in 2008, joining the DrumPulse team shortly after.
Two things that you may not know about Joe are that he is more handsome than Mark and that he doesn’t like Morrissey (unlike Mark)!
Chris Abingdon, Support Facilitator
“To experience the effect rhythm has on groups of people is incredible. It’s a privilege to work with such an enthusiastic and creative team. Everything is possible with these guys!”
As a Support Facilitator, Chris is there to think ahead and support the Head Facilitator. Keeping calm under pressure and staying positive while still smiling are just some of Chris’s characteristics.
Chris’s drumming career to date has seen him touring within Europe and all over the UK. He has worked live with a raft of army marching bands, brass bands, swing/jazz orchestras and rock and pop bands. He has also immersed himself in the latest technology concerning electronic percussion and recording techniques.
Chris has a very open mind and is always learning about music. His attention to detail and passion for people and sharing rhythm make him an invaluable member of the team.
Two things that you may not know about Chris is that he listens to power ballads and has a vintage fashion sense. Though Chris is one of the youngest members of the company, his choice in clothes make him look much (much) older!
Katharine Ingle, Support Facilitator
“I just love to witness people enjoying themselves and growing in confidence. My motto is ‘Live the life you love’.”
As a Support Facilitator, Katharine can be drumming on stage one minute, leading a breakout group the next or finding herself doing the unglamorous job of packing away hundreds of drums at the end of the day!
Katharine’s passion lies in making people happy and she loves to be part of the DrumPulse experience as she feels drumming is such a rewarding endeavour. Katharine’s background is in acting and dance so music and rhythm were obviously the next step. Having worked in so many glamorous performance environments, including theatres, concert halls, and television, Katharine brings exactly the sense of drama and positivity needed to engage your team.
One thing you may not know about Katharine is that she was born in a mud hut with no water or electricity in the ancient Rift Valley in Ethiopia! Katharine’s energy and zest for life may come from having such a unique and awe-inspiring birth. We recommend that you have a drumming event with Katharine so that you can ask her to tell you the whole story!
Vicky Wakefield, Event Coordinator
“As the newest, and possibly the maddest, member of the team, I’m also the most important…because I make the best tea! Every day brings new and exciting challenges and I love the fact that we can make a difference to individuals, groups, teams and companies.”
As an Event Coordinator, Vicky juggles all tasks and keeps all the office in order. She is excellent at creating bespoke events and ensures that the clients she speaks to receive their proposals on time.
Vicky has a management background and is well practiced in running a tight ship, having a passion for organising events, meetings, conferences, days out and training sessions.
Her degree in Fine Art and Art History meant that her creative juices were bursting to get out when she started with us, and she has found DrumPulse to be a great outlet for all her ideas.
Two things that you may not know about Vicky are that she is affectionately known as Miss Marple in the office (although she doesn’t know why) and that she makes her poor husband get up for the horses at 6am!
The Remo Drum Company
Another part of our team is the Remo Drum Company. Remo support DrumPulse with a huge range of the finest drums available. We use a selection of Remo drum types from all over the globe to promote a subtle multi-cultural message.
With no animal skins used at all, and using state-of-the-art body materials, we avoid any religious or ethical concerns. Remo drums are not affected by temperature, allowing them to be easily transported by air and to be used outdoors if required.
