Sometimes, we are guilty of overlooking the critical items that make a drumming event possible – the drums themselves. These simple, ancient and powerful objects provide the reason why this blog even exists!
We use Remo drums and have done so from the very beginning of DrumPulse. Remo drums look great, sound fantastic and can withstand the rigors of international team building. These hardy instruments are in and out of vans and venues, in all temperatures, and are played for countless hours, never faltering.
We use a mixed selection of Remo drums, originating from many cultures. This diversity provides us with a variety of sounds, shapes and colours to work with.
Last week, we had a huge storm in the UK. London transport was disrupted, with flights cancelled, trees down and many other weather related problems. We have several Head Facilitators throughout the country, each with a stock of Remo drums. One such stockpile got completely soaked when the warehouse in which the drums were stored became flooded.
I went to inspect the damage. Our drums are protected by padded soft cases (to avoid damage in transit and storage), which had soaked up the storm water like huge sponges. The first drum squelched as I lifted it and I started to open the case expecting to discover the worst…
Apart from needing a good toweling off, our drums were very wet but the resilience of the Remo drumheads and shell construction saved the day. Well-done Remo!
You will find Remo instruments in almost any music store in the UK and we cannot recommend them highly enough.
