One area of which we differentiate from other team building event companies is the use of authentic rhythms and drumming from across the world.
I am writing this very short blog from Barbados, where I have just watched one of the island’s most famous cultural spectacles – the ‘Crop Over Parade’. Starting in the middle of Bridgetown, the capital of the island, thousands of elaborately-dressed participants, wearing vibrant costumes, feathers and stunning make up, took to their musical floats – each with enormous speaker systems blaring out calypso, reggae and other Caribbean rhythms.
The music and rhythms had an almost hypnotic effect on everyone around. Even white-legged tourists found it impossible not to sway and move as the tides of sound swept by.
While in the West we may have superfast broadband and 900 TV channels, it could be argued that we have been rather short changed rhythmically! The infectious syncopation and complex interplay between percussion instruments that I have just witnessed puts popular music in the West in the shade. I believe that the basic repetitive options contained within rock music and modern dance music have left our rhythmical evolution sadly lacking. Much in the same way that Africa, Latin America and many parts of the East are considered underdeveloped, all these same regions boast a much more evolved rhythmical culture, and one we try to learn from.
It is these same authentic, captivating, and complex rhythms that we bring to our team building events. By cleverly selecting and combining infectious rhythms from across the world, we create a musical global cocktail that never fails to get under the skins of our participants. We believe that this creates the intangible magic in our events.
